Sahara Gravel offers a 4-day stage race along some of the most stunning gravel roads, spanning from Ouarzazate to Erg Lihoudi in the Sahara Desert. You got the chance to sign up as a solo rider or as a pair.
THE ROUTE
Breathtaking valleys, high mountains & the mighty Sahara desert!
Being in the Sahara Desert is an experience like no other, but reaching it by bike elevates the journey to unforgettable heights. Spanning a total distance of 445 kilometers over four stages, with an elevation gain of over 4500 meters, our route takes you through a variety of terrains, with 90% of the journey on gravel roads or easy single trails.
Welcome – Pick up 9am
Arrival and Adventure Begins
We kick off with a drive from Marrakesh to Ouarzazate, a Hollywood favorite location. If you have the time, we highly recommend experiencing this journey by bike – a two-day trip through stunning landscapes. Once you arrive, relax by the pool with a refreshing mint tea as you prepare for the exciting race ahead.
Stage 1 – 99km / +950m
Into the Atlas Wilderness
Let’s start! The race kicks off in the stunning foothills of the Atlas Mountains, where you will navigate through pristine gravel roads and breathtaking views. This stage blends beauty with challenge, as the cool mountain air provides a refreshing start to the journey.
Stage 2 – 102km / +1650m
Conquering the Anti-Atlas
Leaving the Atlas behind, you will enter the rugged terrain of the Anti-Atlas. This stage winds through dramatic rock formations and jagged cliffs, this hidden gem is unforgettable. In the evening, enjoy a hearty meal under the stars—slow-cooked tagine bursting with flavors, paired with local spices and mint tea.
Stage 3 – 95km / +550m
Welcome to the Sahara
You will leave the rocky terrain of the Anti-Atlas behind, descending into vast, arid plains that lead toward the edge of the Sahara Desert. The landscape shifts dramatically, with the jagged mountains giving way to flatter, more open terrain. The iconic beauty of the desert is just ahead.
Stage 4 – 115km / +220m
Final sprint between the Dunes
The final stage delivers riders into the iconic Sahara Desert where the expansive horizon dominate the landscape, Morocco’s true magic unfolds. As night falls, stargaze under the clearest skies you’ve ever seen.
Farewell
Back to Marrakesh
It is time to leave Gravel paradise behind and head back to Marrakesh. Arrival time around 6pm. Explore the city’s vibrant streets, enjoy the best coffee spots, and let us help you find the perfect souvenirs to remember your Moroccan journey.

ACCOMODATION
A Real Moroccan Experience! At each stage of your adventure, you’ll be well taken care of. Relax by the pool, sip on mint tea, and enjoy a variety of delicious Moroccan dishes. Every detail is designed to give you an authentic and memorable experience of Morocco.
For the first three stages, you’ll share a comfortable, beautifully decorated room with your friend, partner, or another participant. As we move to the last two stages, we’ll stay in authentic Nomad camps. Tents for 2-3 persons include comfortable beds and even bathrooms.

FAQ
Is Morocco safe?
Morocco is safer than most parts in Europe. Crime outside of Marrakesh is minimal. Just be aware of pickpocketing in tourist areas.
How are the Nomad camps?
You will have a proper bedroom with a shower and bathroom. Sleeping in the Sahara desert will be an unforgettable experience in its own right. The stars are brighter, there is zero noise at night, and accomplishing the journey by bike will provide you with a strong feeling of satisfaction.
How fit do I have to be?
Sahara Gravel is designed for riders who seek a personal challenge and want to experience a unique place, as well as for the best racers on the planet. You should be fine riding for four consecutive days, covering approximately 100 kilometers each day on loose surfaces.
Do I have to carry my own luggage?
No, you can drop your bag in the morning, and we will transport it to your hotel. One bag per person. If you have more luggage, you can leave it during the event at the start location.
Can I cancel my inscription?
Until 3 months before the event you can cancel your inscription with a 85% refund (23rd of November 2025). Afterwards no cancelation is possible. However can you forward your inscription to someone else without any additional costs.
How to get to Ouarzazate?
Most participants will fly into Marrakesh. We will provide a shuttle service for you and your bike on Sunday and Monday at 9 am. It is worth checking for direct flights to Ouarzazate; perhaps you’ll get lucky. If you have the time, we can also recommend biking from Marrakesh to the start of the event. We are happy to provide you with a route for it.
Can my partner also join if he is not a participant?
Yes there are options to have your partner part of the event. Please reach out to us via info@epicos.cc and we can give you more insights.
Do I need any insurance?
Of course, you should have a valid health and travel insurance.
Will it be very sandy?
No, we designed a route where sand patches are minimal. Most likely you won’t push your bike more than 5 minutes during the whole 4 stages.
How do I get to the start?
Included in the inscription fee is a shuttle service for you and your bike from Marrakesh to Ouarzazate (4hours drive) on the 22nd or 23rd of February. On the 28th we then return to Ouarzazate (4h drive) or Marrakesh (8h drive).
If you got the time, we recommend you to bike pack from Marrakesh to the start location ( 2-day bike packing trip). We can provide you a stunning route.
